4 Stars Chaos Bleeds! Better get a bandaid!
Buffy and the gang return to the PS2 with a vengance in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds. Control familiar faces as Buffy Summers, Willow, Zander, Faith, and Spike to confront zombies, gargoyles, and of course, vampires. An enemy from Buffy’s past has resurfaced with plans to summon “The First Evil” thereby casting the world into permanent darkness. The game is set in locations from the t.v. show and set up for some creepy battles against that which roams the night. Each character speaks, allowing for some genuinely funny moments and the atmospheric music really goes well with the game. Fans will enjoy the bonus material unlocked throughout the game, but that doesn’t mean you have to be a fan to enjoy the game. Sporting some multiplayer modes this game keeps me comming back for more. Four stars out of Five.

5 Stars Rebuying This Game
Ok this is my first review, guys, but I think this game is worth every second of my time, both playing it and supporting it via reviews and forums.

I bought this game for my son, he is a fan of the “Buffyverse” that consists of Angel and Buffy, as am I. I thought this would be a good opportunity for us to spend some time together playing something that we would both enjoy. I was right! This game is definitely worth the cash.

Sadly, when we moved, we lost track of the game and haven’t found it but I just bought a used one here at amazon and it should be here in a few days. Amazon’s products are always top notch as are many of the power sellers that sell the used products. Simply, if you are considering buying this game, I dont think youll be able to find one to rent so just buy it here for a few dollars more than the rental and even if you dont like it… Look up a CD-related recycling project like a CD collage and build one of those lol.

Now my son will take over and explain the finer points of the game because I just found it fun to play

Hey guys, this game is awesome. Vivendi really outdid theirselves this time… I have played many of their games and this is EASILY their best (not to insult them or anything, their others are good too >_>)

Gameplay – The gameplay is topnotch. I know you’ll read some of the negative reviews of how willow and buffy dont sound exactly like themselves. Well Allison Hannigan and Sarah Michelle Gellar didnt do the voice acting because they were busy with other projects. I didnt find that this took away from the experience because I kind of got used to it after a few minutes.

I found this game to have a regular “search and return” basis with a beat ‘em up aftertaste. By this, I mean that, like most action games, the whole premise of the game is pretty linear and you simply have to find items that link with other items/interactions to accomplish your goal. SO? The best part about this game is the combat system. It’s so intuitive yet lets you control it. The camera is a little buggy at times but it only takes a minute to get the hang of it.

Really the only complaint I can muster would be that it was a little short for my tastes (even thought its like 20 hours on the hardest difficulty) but thats just because I liked it so much. Oh and my disc had a scratch from where I dropped it (not the games fault obviously) and it used to freeze on the third level when you take over willow for the second time (just a sad thought I would share with you lol)

Sound – Aside from the issues with voice acting with Buffy and Willow, this is where the game really shines. The acting is perfect, the script sounds just like something out of a Buffy episode, and you have to love the sound of a vamp dusting that you spend 2 minutes trying to pin down because there were three others knocking you down. (Again, I am a hardcore gamer and always play on the highest difficulties, its not nearly as hard as it sounds and its even easier on normal) The ambiance is nice but it doesnt overdo it… And the pitfall of every action game. You know those catch phrases that heroes use when they kill something? “You’re dead… No… Really…” >_> If you havent memorized all of them by the end of the game? You must have short term memory loss. But you barely notice and you can always take your aggression out on the legions of the undead XD

Graphics – The characters look like their real life counterparts and the settings are spot on. Not much more to say here, OH when you dust a vamp for example, the monster dies in that position. Say you stake him in the middle of him kicking you… he dusts with his foot in the air =) That kind of attention to detail is why I love this game.

Replayability – The game doesnt have multiple plot lines or anything that would normally deem you wanting to replay the game. However, I found the combat so fun, and I LOVED using willow’s spells, that I found myself coming back to the game over and over.

Summary – Buy it. Now. Its only 10 dollars. What else are you going to spend that on? A pizza? Starbucks? Do you really need those calories? (Not that sitting in front of a playstation is going to do any better for you lol) But do a few jumping jacks and do yourself a favor. Buy this game.

5 Stars amazing overall
I got this game a little while ago and I love it! Im a huge BTVS fan so of course I got this as soon as I could. Despite the fact SMG doesnt do Buffys voice, and other characters are missing their real voice, you bearly notice because the real actors are there for their characters, and that seems to support it. The graphics are wonderful for playstation 2 and although the characters faces arent spot on they do have very similar like-ness. Personally, I would have loved a little Angel in the story but thats fine. It progressivly gets harder but its still possible to beat. I would absolutly recommend this game to any Buffy fan and its worth the cost for such a great game. It really is like controlling fights and what not in an episode.

5 Stars What an enjoyable game.
After reading several reviews, mine is probably going to sound much like the general consensus of the other reviewers. However, just to throw in my two cents, this game very enjoyable to a fan of the show and possibly not a fan who likes action/RPGs. I’m not going to go in GREAT detail describing every aspect of the game, but here is a small synopsis of the major concepts.

Voice Acting:

I agree with the voice acting comments reflecting on how Anya is completely off mark. However, Hannigan’s voice actor does sound a lot like her, and probably is close as someone’s going to get without actually having the unique voice of Aly, herself. The voice actor for Buffy is superb. Being the huge fan I am, I found myself not even questioning that it wasn’t SMG speaking. The others are the original cast themselves so, of course, they’re wonderful.

The Game’s Plot:

The storyline is in true Buffyverse fashion. As I recall, this game actually represents a lost episode that was going to go into the actual series. I’m pretty sure it was season six because of a reference that Ethan Rayne makes in the game about season seven’s big bad, but it could be set in season five. In any case, the cutscenes are very compelling and the script writing great.

The Levels:

Because of the fact that the Scooby gang gets seperated early on, each level has a different member fighting. Such as Buffy in the Magic Box, Xander in the old High School, Faith in an old Quarry House, Willow at the Sunnydale Mall, and etc. There is even help from Sid the dummy who you get to control at some point during the game. Sid is surprisingly fast and fun to play. Also, the boss on each level is specific to the character that you’re playing with.

The Characters:

The playable characters include Buffy, Willow, Xander, Spike, Faith, and Sid the dummy. Each characters have different abilities and controls. I’d say Buffy, Faith, and have the closest if not the same controls. Buffy and Faith are the easiest to manuever, in my opinion. Next, Spike and Xander are similar, although I found Xander a little weaker in hand-to-hand combat. Willow was the most fun. Although, hand-to-hand combat is an option, you can cast spells on your enemies that include Shockwaves, Fireballs, Sun Spells, Homing Missiles, Shielding, Possession, and Sonic Blast. Each player has similar objectives which include your general hack-and-slash enemies technique, but also some puzzle solving missions that range from easy to considerably complex.

As quoted by another reviewer, “By the zoo level, we lost our patience and found a walkthrough online. I guess we were supposed to know that we had to grab the top of an automatic fence as it lifts up to get to the other side of a room???” I know I found myself going on the internet during Xander’s High School mission and Buffy’s Zoo one because I couldn’t figure out some of the puzzle work such as that grabbing gate move. Overall, it wasn’t that bad, and I’m not much of a gamer at all.

Negative Aspects:

The camera angle is tricky at times. Sometimes the game won’t let you turn 180 degrees with the right analog stick. I’d chalk it up to a typical game gliche. It’s not severe, but can be frustrating. Also, each level has Continuation Points that get activated when you reach a certain room or place, so if you die, you will come directly to that spot. However, the game actually only SAVES after each level is completely finished. So if you’ve faught your way all the way until the room before the Boss and it says “Continue Point Activated” don’t turn off your game thinking that you’ll restart back at the point. I spent a frustrated night thinking that I’d finish the level in the morning but found out that I had to start at the beginning of the level all over again when I turned my PS2 back on. Also, there isn’t an automatic lock on the enemy that your fighting. I spent many a night punching the air and kicking walls while vampires hit me directly every time. Some of the enemies require you to stake them before they die whether they be a vampire or weird creature from Buffy’s zoo level. I never really understood why certain Cyborgs from Spike’s Initiative level bit Spike’s neck like a vampire either, but those are small faults that really don’t bring the game down. I didn’t much care for the Multi-player option in the game though.

Positive Aspects:

The Bonus Features are great fun to watch. Several actor voice-overs get unlocked after completing certain levels of the game. I loved Amber Benson’s and James’ pieces. Those unlockables are more fun to watch than a lot of the extras on my actual “Buffy” DVD seasons. Also, the game’s humor is what kept me thriving onward during sometimes long missions. Through-out the game, the characters would make small comments about objects, enemies, and new places that were entirely in character.

Xander: *picks up a weapon* Now. If I could just find a monster with a bulls-eye on its chest.

Willow: *finds a Medical pack* A medi-pack! Now I can play nurse. Tara’s going to love that.

Buffy: *tries to open a locked door* Locked. Mom always said my natural charisma would open doors. Just not that one.

It’s small things that which really make the game enjoyable. I also liked the fact that while playing a certain Scoobie member, their “counter-part” would give them instructions on performing certain tasks. For example, a voice-over from Giles would instruct Buffy to do certain missions or Tara would instruct Willow on how to perform helpful spells. I know many people complained that the graphics were not above and beyond, but I thought they were pretty good. Also, I would much rather prefer that game designers spend more money on making the game interesting, complex, and enjoyable than focussing solely on how the game looks and not caring about the storyline.

And honestly, who wouldn’t love a game where Xander interacts with bunnies while fighting Anyanka in a strange parallel universe? Or Willow fighting with magic against Vampire Tara spouting phrases like, “I-I know y-y-you think shyness is sexy, but this time… you get to be the submissive one.”

Therefore, even with the slight gliches that this game has (all games have SOME gliches), I still rate this game Five Stars. If it is how the game makes you FEEL while playing it that matters, this game definitely deserves the best rating.

5 Stars This game is AWESOME!
When I first played the game I fell in love with right away. The graphics are so much better than the first one. I loved how they brought in Ethan Rayne and they used psycho patients,faith and Sid the dummy. I loved every level of this game. As each level progress, the harder they are and you have to pay close attention to what you’re doing. This game is very addicting because you want to know what happens next in the game, and everytime you finish a level you unlock either an interview with the voice of the characters, comic strip, cast photos, or watch them say a scene that took place from the video game and it’s a lot of fun.

To anyone that wants to play an entertaining, spunky, adventerous game.. BUY this..I gurantee you wont be disappointed..it’s full of action packed and you’ll never bored. No disappoint here.

3 Stars Could’ve Been Better, But Not Bad
Although the graphics are an improvement over the Gameboy Color Buffy game, I wasn’t overly impressed by the gameplay in this new Buffy game for Gameboy Advance. Between levels, there is dialogue between the characters which are now real stills from the show, though just the same ones used over and over again. It’s still an improvement over the drawn characters in the GBC Buffy game, but I was disappointed at the lack of characters. As with the last GBC Buffy game, there was no Spike (James Marsters), who happens to be my favorite character. In the stills, the only characters were Buffy, Giles, Xander, Willow, and Anya. Riley is in the game but only has a helpful character during boss battles. The bosses do include the Gentlemen and Adam from the show, as well as the new Darkhul King (who proved to be incredibly easy for being the ultimate bad guy in my opinion).

One of the things that really threw me off about this game was the controls. They were quite awkward, and made for a somewhat frustrating gaming experience. For instance, to jump you have to use R1, which hard to use on a regular basis. Not to mention that there were alot of difficult jumps to perform in the game. This was very frustrating at times. The game was relatively short, with only 16 levels that are pretty short. The puzzles were ok, though seemed somewhat out of place at times. The music was repetitive and annoying, and not anywhere near as neat as the music on the show. I think if the makers would have spent just a little more time on this game, it could’ve been alot of more fun for fans.

Average game. Nothing speacial. Very fun for fans; not so much for not fans. Now all we need is an Angel game(i sure hope so)

4 Stars Buffy returns!
Buffy is a great game! It has great weaponry, it has fantastic graphics, and the game uses real characters from the show! The only reason I cut a star is that it is very short, but when you play a game like this, you will want to play it over and over. My suggestion is if you are looking for fun, Buffy comes first!

2 Stars Worth a look for action or Buffy fans
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Wrath of the Darkhul King is essentially another licensed side scrolling beat ‘em up that occasionally has something to do with the series it’s based on through still cut scenes from the series and weapons that fans of the series will be familiar with. Taking place within the fourth season of the show, Buffy encounters hordes of vampires and demons, as well as the voice stealing Gentlemen and the cybernetic giant Adam among other baddies. The ability to combine weapons adds some variety to the game, but there are plenty of cons here. Jumping moves are very annoying to get ahold of, the puzzles are tedious, and if you can get through all that, you’ll find that the game is actually a breeze to get through. The graphics are colorful, but nothing that pushes the GBA to it’s limits. It’s too bad that THQ didn’t put more thought into designing this game, I for one would have enjoyed it if you could play as other characters than just Buffy; adding Xander, Willow, Riley, or even Giles would have been fun given each has different abilities, but oh well. All in all, this game is worth a look for fans of the series that own a GBA, but all others should leave this on the shelf.
